Curious about writing for radio?

Not sure if your writing would work on radio?

What is a soundscape?

What does a radio script look like?

How do you avoid an information dump?

Want to send your play to the BBC?  What are they looking for?

Come and experiment with the specific set of writing skills you’ll need to get your work heard. We’ll examine extracts of radio plays, practise writing techniques and you’ll learn how to create characters, atmosphere and a sense of time and place using significant sound. Bring your work in progress, your ideas, your questions. Be prepared to write and rewrite.

I’m excited to be back working in Honiton, my home town, where the Glove still goes up at the start of the fair and the kids scramble for hot pennies. I lived behind what is now the Thelma Hulbert Gallery – we used to bat quinces over the fence into their garden not realising anyone lived there. Not a lot to do in Honiton in those days.

The Creative Room in the Thelma Hulbert Gallery is a light and spacious room with wheelchair access via a lift to the first floor. Limited parking available at the Gallery, and plenty of parking in the central carpark opposite at Lace Walk.

Workshops are smoke/vape and mobile free zones. There will be scheduled breaks.
